About My Clients
I enjoy treating adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety related issues. My specialty areas include Anxiety Disorders (panic disorder, social anxiety, perfectionism, generalized), Trauma/PTSD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors such as hair pulling and skin picking. I understand that anxiety presents differently for everyone. I can teach you how to more effectively handle difficult thoughts and feelings so that your symptoms are manageable.
My Background and Approach
My education and experience has been in evidence-based treatment, or therapies that have been proven to work effectively and create positive change for clients. I recognize that every individual presents differently, even if if they share the same diagnosis. Therefore, I pull from a small variety of treatment modalities including: 1.) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Based on the idea that an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behavior are all connected. 2.) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: Identify and recognize inner emotions and take action-oriented changes related to each person's values. 3.) Narrative Therapy: Allows clients to identify problem areas as separate from themselves and explore how it is protecting, helping, or hurting them. 4.) Exposure Therapy: Based in the idea of emotional avoidance, it gradually reduce obsessions, compulsions, and unwanted trauma responses. 5.) Mindfulness: A specific skill where we can increase our focus on the present without judgement.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My hope is for empathy to play a larger role in how we relate to one another and solve problems in our world. In my personal life and in my work, I promote values of openness, harm reduction, and recognizing the validity of each person's individual experience. Specifically, I am a co-founder of a local Anti-Racism and Social Equity group, eat a plant-based diet as often as possible, and have volunteered with local dog rescues and crisis hotline for victims of sexual assault.
