About My Clients
I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy in addition to structured and less structured therapy, depending on what the client's goals and needs are. I love to work with clients who are motivated and are ready to make changes in their lives as well as with clients who feel stuck and do not believe that they have the skills to stop engaging in behaviors that no longer serve them.
My Background and Approach
I believe strongly in person centered care and work with clients to help them reach their goals. I look at the client as the expert of their lives and do what I can to help facilitate growth for them. Since I graduated from social work school, I have been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech, and I have participated in a three-year training program through Mental Health Service Corps, in which I was was trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and crisis management. I take advantage of any opportunity that I can to learn more, and I have taken many training courses and continue to expand my knowledge and skills.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
A therapeutic relationship is about allowing yourself time and space to both be seen and heard. I view therapy as a gift, and I love being able to continue to give people a safe space. I have always been an empathetic person, and I really enjoy connecting with and getting to know others. One of the first jobs I held while in college allowed me to work in a transitional independent living program for adolescent girls. I fell in love with the girls and with the work I was doing, as I find working with people when they are at their most vulnerable to be a very meaningful experience. Additionally, I have worked in multiple substance abuse and mental health clinic settings, in which I provided evidence-based mental health care to teens, young adults, and adults from a variety of backgrounds. These experiences helped shape my love for working with people, and I am honored when my clients allow me into their inner lives.
