Experiential therapy aims for client's to have real experiences within counseling. This could simply mean to have an experience of your own needs and emotions in the moment. Or it could mean to experience a memory from childhood or to re-enact a conversation that was had that didn't sit right. It can also mean bringing bodily sensation awareness into session. Or being led in a guided meditation or visualization. It can be many things, but in my experience is quite powerful.
Integrative therapy takes elements of many different therapeutic approaches to meet each individual person's unique needs. It could mean taking a technique from Gestalt therapy, and a skill from emotionally focused therapy and using them within the same session to help in your exploration, processing, and healing. As an abstract and critical thinker integrative therapy is my preferred way of working, along with humanistic, and experiential therapy.
Humanistic therapy is very person-centered, warm, non-judgmental, compassionate, and genuine. It believes that all humans are inherently good, have free-will, and are intrinsically driven toward the realization and expression of their potential. It is holistic, encourages mindfulness, self-awareness, and the creation of deeper meaning. It strives to see you as you really are, at your very best, and helps to cultivate the most true, authentic, core version of self. This grounds all my work.
Would you call yourself a people pleaser? Do you have a hard time saying no and setting boundaries for yourself and your relationships? Do you often feel like you give way more than people give to you? If you struggle with any of these things, or with simply knowing what you are needing, feeling, and are worth, you are no alone. I would love to help you learn to set healthy boundaries, have healthy relationships, and know your true worth.
Life can sometimes feel like a constant transition. Have you recently graduated, decided to change jobs or careers, decided to start a family, or cut ties with family? Have you recently come out, or want to come out? Have you lost an important relationship, pet, or loved one? Are you're beliefs shifting about the world, humanity, and your spirituality? These are only some of the many examples of life transitions I would love to support you in and through.
Do you struggle with self-compassion and self-acceptance? Is shame an ever-presents internal struggle? I would love to help you re-discover your innate worth and to grow in compassion and acceptance of yourself. Self-esteem is an area I specialize in.
