About My Clients
I work with people who are doing their best to live meaningfully in a complicated and chaotic world. You may feel bewildered, trying to balance your responsibility to others, fears about the future, and the difficult realities of making it through each day. You may be recognizing the ways that your upbringing, past experiences, or former environments have left you with strategies that no longer serve you today.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic foundation is in drama therapy, which is the intentional use of drama processes to achieve therapeutic goals. In my work, this often translates to the use of metaphor, narrative, and creative imagining when engaging with clients. I balance our work between managing current challenges and questions with recognizing the impact of past experiences and narratives on daily life. My professional experience has given me the privilege of working with individuals who have brought to our sessions experiences of domestic violence, chronic anxiety, alcohol dependency, gender dysphoria, sex and intimacy concerns, grief, disordered eating, immigration and displacement, incarcerated family members, parent-child relational issues, self-harm and suicidal ideation.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I ground my therapy work on the understanding that the demands of our society are frequently incompatible with our body’s and our communities’ needs for growth and support. I bring curiosity, compassion, and deep respect to the ways you move through the world. As a queer person, I am in both personal and professional worlds with many queer and trans individuals, communities, and networks, where I am always learning new ways of being in relationship to others, to sexuality, and to oneself. I have supported clients of all ages across the LGBTQ+ community. In our current geopolitical and environmental climate, I often speak with clients about feeling overwhelmed, powerless, and/or lost when considering how to build a life worth living. I believe we can connect with a long history of others who have faced extremely difficult circumstances and found ways to create meaning, healing, care, and growth.
