My Background and Approach
Early in my career, I worked in clinical mental health settings and went on to create my private practice specializing in work with women recovering from disordered eating and negative body image issues. My work as a specialist in this field led me to recognize the mind/body connection, specifically how the body holds onto the emotional experiences and memories of my clients. I truly came to see the body as being the gateway to the subconscious mind. In somatic therapy, we focus primarily on the body by attuning to our sensations, felt senses, reflexive movements, and somatic patterns. My particular work focuses on early developmental movements (yield, push, reach, grasp, pull) and how they are connected to our attachment strategies and adaptive defense mechanisms. We explore these associations in the present moment to learn about the defensive strategies held in the body that still influence how we move through relationships and life itself.
