About My Clients
I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups. My skills and interventions come from a variety of theories such as Adlerian and Positive Psychology. I operate from a strengths-based, encouragement-focused approach. We all have great strengths within us, but sometimes it is hard to focus on these strengths as we are going through challenging times. My goal is to process your presenting concern and find the strengths in you.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #3186) in the state of Kansas. I am also a Certified Humanistic Sandtray Therapist (CHST) and a Board Certified Telehealth Professional (BCTP-I). I was honored to receive Counselor of the Year by the Kansas Counseling Association (KCA) in 2024 and the Distinguished Service Award by KCA in 2025. I view clients from an Adlerian perspective. For example, I do not believe clients are sick. Instead, I believe sometimes we become discouraged which negatively impacts our life. I am an older father of a young daughter, and I understand that balancing personal and work life can become overwhelming at times. Operating from a theory is important, but the therapeutic relationship between counselor and client is even more important to foster change. I have taught counseling skills for more than 10 years. Wisdom and experience have taught me to collaborate with my clients and explore instead of analyze because you are the expert on your life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe self-care is remarkably important to ourselves and those around us. The healthier we are, the better we are at home and work. The best thing you can bring to your relationships is a healthy you. Self-care is a priority in my life, but I am also flexible with scheduling. For example, I am available for appointments during the day, evening, and weekends.
