About My Clients
Making the decision to seek assistance is a sign of presession change. I look forward to assisting anyone who desires to overcome life's difficulties. I have treated individuals and families with clients aging between 3 and 97 years old. I have successfully treated depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, addictions, and trauma. I use an eclectic approach, which includes integration of faith into treatment. Moreover, I am not judgmental and have treated individuals from diverse faiths.
My Background and Approach
Most treatment and counseling is approached from a bio/psycho/social perspective; that is, treatment looks at biological, psychological, and social components of the difficulty. However, I add a fourth perspective -- faith and/or spirituality. I generally use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; yet, I am also certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. When treatment trauma, I use a Trauma-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral approach. Since I am retired from the United States Air Force, I understand the complex difficulties of active-duty personnel and veterans. Additionally, I have been married for nearly 45 years and also understand the difficulties of maintaining healthy relationships. There are three common problems that I address from a didactic (teaching) approach -- specifically, problem-solving, boundary-setting, and communication skills. I look forward to assisting an individual and/or family with addressing the problems that life has thrown them. Call for an appointment.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all individuals have the capacity for change. I believe that when individuals are given the skills and opportunity to change, they will begin to live the "best versions of themselves." Although I developed my own values and beliefs related to faith, I do not proselytize or tell others how to live their lives. I learned an excellent definition of counseling -- "Helping others find their own best way." I am solidly ethical and treat others with the respect that they deserve. My mantra is to extend respect to others, even in the presence of disrespect. In this manner, I have been privileged to treat individuals from a wide and varied background; including, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, age, educational, and nation of origin. While raising a teenager, I discovered that the mental health industry was ill-equipped to deal with challenging and complex situations. Once I retired from the USAF, I sought out and believe that I have discovered the answer. Call me!
