About My Clients
My clients tend to be young adults who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, who have multiple cultural and/or racial identities, or who are neurodivergent, including those labeled "Gifted". My experiences working with clients who are survivors of complex trauma showed me that I get energized by working with folks who have strongly defined parts (including those with dissociative disorders such as DID and OSDD) and folks who have been labeled with personality disorders like BPD, NPD, and OCPD.
My Background and Approach
I received my MSW from Southern Connecticut State University in 2020. I have worked in several settings, but my primary experience comes from college counseling, working with queer youth, and supporting clients struggling with substance use and addiction. My approach is tailored to each individual I work with and involves guiding my clients from a framework of trauma-informed and liberation therapy. In "therapy speak", I use a relational, psychodynamic, and systems theory lens in viewing the challenges my clients face. I practice cultural humility, recognizing my clients as experts on their own experiences and remaining consistently open to learning from them. I most often use techniques from Internal Family Systems Therapy (in which I completed my Level 1 training in 2024), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I aim to be transparent and collaborative in order to lessen power imbalances with my clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am multi-racial, neurodivergent, and part of the LGBTQ+ community. I have also lived in many different cultures around the world. In my work, I bring all of my own lived experiences, as a person who benefits from many privileges and also has several marginalized identities, as well as the experiences of others I've learned from and lived alongside. My lens uses the social model of disability and is neurotype affirming. My political values lean towards the far left and I aim to consistently advocate for social justice and challenge racism, colonialism, and other systems of oppression as they show up in my personal life, my work, and my community(ies). I also recognize that I'm human; I try to learn from and stay accountable for my mistakes while still holding compassion for myself and others who are striving for ideals that we do not always live up to. Over time I have adopted more nuanced views on most things, and I pride myself on my ability to change my mind when learning more.
