I suffered from depression for more than 20 years, so I know what it's like to get lost in the fog and despair of clinical depression. It takes a multi-pronged and holistic approach to treat depression, but it can be done if you know how.

I have been in recovery since 2005, and am well-versed in 12-Step-based recovery practices. I have spent the bulk of my career as a substance abuse counselor working at community agencies and psychiatric hospitals. Addiction is a scourge that must be treated like any other mental illness - with care, compassion, and expertise.

Anxiety is the most common form of mental illness in America. It stems from our desire to control that which we cannot. The secret to managing anxiety is to understand that it is both a psychological and physical disorder and that you have to treat the whole person as a result.

As a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist as well as someone who has been in recovery for almost 16 years, I know what it's like to be in your shoes. I have helped hundreds achieve and maintain their sobriety with a 12-step approach that combines my clinical experience and training.

MI helps facilitate change. It is a crucial tool in an addiction's counselor's toolbox, though it has plenty of applications for mental health as well. Change is hard, but with the right guide, you'll be able to achieve that which you never thought possible.

CBT is the cornerstone of modern counseling and a theory that is dear to my heart. How we think affects how we feel, and how we feel affects what we do. If we want to change our behaviors and our emotions, we must first tackle the way we think about things.

I use an integrated approach to addiction counseling that is person-centered in terms of foundation, but also heavy on direction and accountability. As far as orientation, I favor 12-Step Facilitation and Motivational Interviewing to help a client stay sober, grounded, and in recovery.

Men are underrepresented in therapy and I'd like to change that by breaking down barriers, reducing stigma, and making therapy for men a productive and even enjoyable experience. Regardless of sexual orientation, men these days are starved for emotional connection and support. As a therapist, that places me in an ideal position to help those who most need it.

While I am not a marriage or couples counselor, per se, I have spent years working with men and women who have essentially been issues ultimatums by their spouses to attend therapy. Often this is due to drug or alcohol issues or unchecked anxiety and depression, but affairs are another common reason, as is general dissatisfaction with life or the relationship itself. Therapy with me provides a safe space to discuss incredibly personal issues without fear of judgment.

I favor a treatment model informed by 12 Steps organization such as Alcoholics Anonymous, and believe in the recovery model they promote.

Work-related burnout is ever-growing problem in our country. And it's no surprise as to why. People are overworked and underpaid, with little incentive to engage in self-care.
