About My Clients
Do you find it hard to get motivated? Does life seem like more of a bother than a gift? Are you burnt-out, struggling to see the purpose of life, or unable to shut off the racing thoughts that keep you up at night? Do you feel stuck? If that sounds like you, I can help. I work with both women and men, but I specialize in men’s issues because men seem to have a harder time asking for help, let alone engaging in therapy. They think that therapy is something it isn’t. That’s where I come in!
My Background and Approach
I am a Board-Certified Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. That means that I can treat clients for both substance abuse and mental health problems. I come from a 12-Step background, which places a heavy emphasis on personal responsibility, accountability, service to others, and a commitment to change. I am trained to use several different therapeutic approaches, but the ones I rely heavily on include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Both are evidenced-based and highly effective. I believe that real change only occurs when we change the way we think about our problems. Our emotions and our behaviors stem from our thoughts, so you have to go to the root of the problem, which is often how we think about things. Whether it is an addiction or clinical depression, how we think has a very real affect on our mental health, in both positive and negative ways.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in acceptance and equality for all. I believe that we are stronger together than we are apart. I believe that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and equally. And I believe that nobody should suffer needlessly, as so many do.
