About My Clients
Adults and couples stuck in something familiar: anxiety that will not settle, depression, addiction and recovery, repeating relationship patterns, grief others expect you to be over, or a life that has changed shape. I also work with personality patterns, including borderline personality disorder. My Background and Approach
I am a licensed professional counselor in Texas and Colorado (LPC.0024698), a licensed chemical dependency counselor, and a National Certified Counselor. I practise Gestalt therapy: we work with what is happening now — in your life and in the room — rather than spending the hour analysing your history from a safe distance. Awareness comes first; change tends to follow it. It is a conversation, not a questionnaire. You will not be handed a worksheet or told what your problem is in the first ten minutes. I notice what shifts as you talk and say so; you are the authority on your own experience. I came to this as a client first. What Gestalt showed me is still what I offer: a chance to see plainly what you actually do, and what it costs you, without a fixed plan for becoming someone else. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I live in Boerne, Texas, with my wife. I came to counseling as a client first, which still shapes how I sit in the chair: I am not interested in talking anyone into a better version of themselves, or in a plan for the person they ought to become. What I care about is that people get an honest look at what they actually do and what it costs them. Choice follows from that more reliably than it follows from advice. You can disagree with me in the room; I would rather be corrected than politely humoured. Active-duty service members, veterans, and first responders receive discounted rates. That is a deliberate choice, not a marketing line. Outside of work I keep the life fairly ordinary — living in a small Hill Country town, and a cat named Art who has made himself at home in more than one of the photographs on my site.
