About My Clients
My clients are often tired from years of making themselves smaller to fit in. Growing up, they may have felt extra invisible or visible (or both) and want to start living a life that feels authentic to them. Some of my clients have experienced fatphobia, medical gaslighting, or ableism and many have been dieting for years and are tired of feeling like something is wrong with them for not fitting a dominant media driven beauty standard that was never designed to be accessible in the first place.
My Background and Approach
My toolbox includes modalities such as existential, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, somatic, and attachment focused therapy. Who we are is not fixed. We are always in process of feeling, sensing, being. These things don't stop, so therapy will look different every session. I'll likely begin by asking you the open ended question: how are you? This can be scary. We often have different answers for different contexts. How you respond will change every time and will bring us deeper into your story. I consider therapy a process. Our feelings don't stop because we have learned tools to cope. Rather, having a strong tool box of coping tools gives us the conditions to dig deeper into your story. I don't think we can ever tell our stories enough. Every time we do, they grow and change. Every time we do, we learn something new about ourselves, large or small.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
First and foremost, I believe that every human is deserving of quality and affirming mental healthcare. I am a Health at Every Size provider who aligns with the Fat Liberation movement and understands that the effects of anti-fat discrimination are harmful and structural. We are not truly free until all bodies are free from discrimination. I am an LGBTQIA+, chronic illness, neurodivergent, poly/kink affirming practitioner. On this note, I approach therapy from a liberation-focused perspective. What this means to me and how I practice is that at the foundation of our work together is an understanding that humans are interconnected. Everything we do affects others and everything that others do affects us. Who we are is only possible because of the fact that we are in relationship with others. Because of this, our own happiness, health, and freedom can only come to pass when all of us, are happy, healthy, and free.
