Mindfulness is often talked about as a way to practice being more present. This is one part of mindfulness practice, being aware about the moment you are in. It is also about acceptance and change, tapping into the senses to be more fully present in your life, and calming the nervous system so you reduce the negative impact of stress. Mindfulness-based therapy in our work together means breathing, feeling, noticing, saying aloud, and setting intentions.

Family systems therapy is a systemic lens that helps us to see where you fit in your life. We may look at your family of origin, community of friends, workplace, society and see how these systems inform who you are and how you interact with the world around you. No one is an island, we all have others we must face and Family Systems or Systems Therapy helps individuals to cope with the relationships and grow as an individual.

Anxiety is one of many normal feelings we need and experience regularly. When anxiety is a problem we often feel we have no control in our life or that moment, we may feel close to or have a panic attack, we sometimes hide the anxiety well so others see us as calm, but inside we are overwhelmed, disconnected, and scared. I treat anxiety as a part of you that needs a clear voice to best hear it we use breath-work, mindfulness, and meditation, and talk and process work too.

Depression is often seen as a dullness, scary dark time and place, painful, and heavy. Often people find it hard to even find motivation to talk to someone or do anything. Other times people found a way to function with depression but don't know how to make it go away or get better. I often use a holistic approach with depression, we may search for some root causes and sometimes these are biological and need medication or other treatments, other times these are due to circumstances, and trauma.

Stress can be a wonderful gift to get us through a challenge, or a chronic debilitating state that stops us from living our lives. In our work we will look at the stressors affecting you, what is within or outside of your control, and how to manage what is manageable and how to work with what is not. Chronic stress can lead to many conditions that people don't realize originated in stress. We work on finding tools that help you daily and give you back your ability to live more fully and freely.

Noticing feelings, sensations, discomforts in your body is part of somatic therapy. With mindfulness practices or body awareness we identify how you are holding and reacting to stressors and other issues in your life. Your body naturally has wisdom that you can tap in to with awareness and we can delve into what it may mean for you and use your body's awareness as part of the work of changing your responses to challenges.
