About My Clients

I have experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma of all kinds, and I am particularly passionate about supporting folks who have experienced religious trauma/ spiritual abuse. Anxiety is another area of focus for me, including the way anxiety and depression impact each other. If you were raised in Christianity and are now reexamining or deconstructing your faith, all aspects of that journey are welcomed in our work together.

My Background and Approach

I have received training in IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) therapy. These are both trauma-informed approaches that honor the way you have survived up until this point, instead of shaming you for doing what you needed to in order to survive. Both of these modalities can be help you get traction in areas where you feel stuck, which I know can be a disheartening experience. Upon working together, I hope you will come to view yourself with more compassion and appreciate the ways you have managed to survive challenges in your life. I also take a strength-based approach, which I think helps counteract the way that therapy often focuses on what we want to change or "fix." My hope is that you will come to wholeheartedly celebrate the gifts and strengths you already have.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I was raised in a faith tradition that harmed those in the LGBTQ+ community and my adult life has been a journey of unlearning these harmful beliefs. I am still actively working to challenge my assumptions about sexuality and gender. I value examining all of the privileged identities I hold, which are many, and I look for opportunities to leverage this privilege toward creating a more equitable world. I believe that Black Lives Matter. And I know that as a white woman I have a lot more listening and learning to do, in order to more clearly see my complicity in white supremacist culture. As you can tell, I am a work in progress--as all therapists are, whether we like to admit it or not! I work hard to ensure micro aggressions do not take place in my therapy office. However, I am also aware I will make mistakes, so I try to communicate a willingness to hear honest feedback when I've missed the mark of thoughtfulness and kindness.
