About My Clients

I have been told I am a delightful little weirdo that specializes in delightful little weirdos. You don't want a therapist that is a blank slate; you want a counselor that you are comfortable being yourself around because they're being themselves too. Whether you're an LGBTQIAQ+ person trying to find a counselor you can trust, a college student that wants someone who can relate to your experience, or a young at heart "glamma" looking for direction in your second act in life, I am here for you!

My Background and Approach

I became interested in the mental health field in middle school. Many people I knew were going to therapy for the first time. Most of them were pretty unsatisfied with the services they were receiving. They felt like they were being treated like problems to be solved instead of people that needed to be heard, seen, and understood. I became passionate about becoming the professional the people I cared about needed when they were younger: Someone that would get to know them, listen, and be willing to say "that sucks!" before making attempts to problem solve. My background in residential substance use treatment connected me with people that were homeless, unemployed, and had experienced significant trauma at young ages. This insight gave me a balanced approach to addictions: I was able to "call people on their crap" when they asked me to without making them feel like crap when I did it. They had gotten enough "tough" from life. I put the "love" first.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe the war on drugs failed and that people with non-violent drug charges should be sent to therapy, not jail. I believe Black Lives Matter. I am a member of the LGBTQIQA+ community and am a passionate ally of transgender, gender non-conforming, and asexual folks. I am not a Christian Counselor, but I am able to connect with people's beliefs to help support them, whether they find comfort in the divine (one or many), need a secular approach, or find themselves somewhere in between. As far as my interests go, in my free time I'm a cat mom, music festival enthusiast, and a big ol' nerd. I watch anime, play Dungeons and Dragons twice a week, play video games (very much into story driven RPGs), host board game nights (love me some Villainous), and enjoy going out for trivia and karaoke.
