About My Clients
My clients typically identify as: non-monogamous, kink, feminist, queer, trans, fetishist, poly, anti-capitalist; and often, although not always, the clients with whom I often work best with are persons who consider themselves to come from a Postmodern philosophical tradition.
My Background and Approach
After receiving an M.A in Human Rights from Columbia University, and working in the social justice arena, I decided to obtain an M.A in Clinical Psychology, with the idea that the most optimal way to address the existential challenges that are so particular to our current socio-historical context lies in our ability to address the ways in which marginalized identities internalize broader social discourse at the local level.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Coming from a background that is premised in Postmodern/Poststructural ideology, I approach problems with an eye that is critical of how people are positioned within power; and more significantly, the personally held values that each person holds, which may serve as the most useful “material” at one’s disposal for gaining traction in one’s life, and empowering how one feels as one through one’s existence. I am very open-minded create a safe, supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic environment that aims to be curious rather than assessment oriented. No one knows your life or your beliefs better than you, and so while I am there to challenge your ideas and help facilitate a more fulfilling and purposeful existence for you, I do not come into our sessions with any foregone conclusions about who you are or ought to be, nor impose my own agendas about what may be “right” for you, apart from those that you expressly desire throughout the course of our discussions.
