About My Clients
Those I work with are typically feeling stuck, overwhelmed, unsure of themselves or their path. Many experience themselves as being disconnected from others, despite a strong desire to feel sense of belonging.
My Background and Approach
I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decades worth of experience. I worked in community mental health, specializing in family and adolescent care with underserved populations before transitioning to working privately. Though I am trained in DBT and RO-DBT (each designed to help those who either feel emotionally out-of-control or too controlled), my approach is generally guided by and Existential-Humanistic framework. What does that all mean? While meeting with me, I'll turn your attention to what you're experiencing in the moment. My approach focuses on helping you build insight about certain patterns, so that you can feel more empowered to approach your experience in new, more relieving way. I find that most struggles have a component related to relationships, and I utilize the relationship between myself and client to address them in real-time.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we all want love, validation, and to feel accepted. When we are unable to access that connection with others, we experience immense pain that can lead to lashing out, withdrawal, or suppressing parts of ourselves to obtain that sense of belonging. Even though pain is an inevitable aspect of the lived experience, I believe we have choice in how we want to relate to our pain. I believe we have the power to reduce our suffering. By first accepting where we are at, we are then able to move towards change.
