About My Clients
My client is you. You are self-motivated, clever, compassionate and ready to work. You know that the situation as you are living it doesn't have to be like this. You know that things are painful but you also know that things can be better but don't have the tools to make the change - yet. You are creative, fun, funny, and eager to learn how to improve your situation. My client is a joy to have in class.
My Background and Approach
My practice is based on radical genuineness, skill building, and acceptance. I'm a certified DBT skills trainer - a modality which I use to help folks with impulse control, interpersonal interaction, and emotion regulation difficulties. I'm trained in Radically Open DBT which helps folks with social anxiety, obsessiveness, rumination, and perfectionism. Throw in some existentialism and a healthy dose of whimsy, radical rest and trauma informed care my practice is a lot about reclaiming self and "doing people" in a world full of unspoken ever changing rules.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a licensed clinical social worker which means I'm highly grounded in the strengths perspective so I believe in meeting people where they are, non-judgementally, and leveraging existing strengths to build healing momentum. I believe that there is no pain to great to be lessened and I believe that people can change their circumstances. I have seen so many people improve when they put in the time, the effort and the willingness to listen, learn, and practice the skills and mental effort involved that I know it is possible to replace unwanted unhelpful behaviors with ones that will lead to a life worth living. I believe that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic and that therapy is brain magic complete with all 3 components. Reach out and I'll teach you how to wield it.
