About My Clients
We all go through stressful and sometimes traumatic experiences in our lives. Therapy is a space for dealing with hardship and also creating a meaningful life and relationships through an authentic, supportive partnership. In my practice, we work on healing the past, and also building toward the future you want.
My Background and Approach
In my therapy practice, I combine Gestalt counseling, mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory, and somatic approaches. Using these perspectives, I offer a comprehensive therapeutic approach that addresses thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and inner conflicts, fostering holistic healing and personal growth. Additionally, I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a practice that uses bilateral stimulation to cultivate strengths and reprocess distressing memories. Overall, I help clients navigate the impact of stress or trauma on their lives and relationships, recognizing the significance of culture and context in shaping their strengths and challenges. Together, we blend various aspects of a client’s experiences and identities to help them grow and flourish, even amidst challenges.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am passionate about integrating social justice and advocacy into the work I do as a counselor, and in my role as a counselor professor training the next generation of counselors. I believe we can all benefit from counseling, and that we all have the ability to grow and heal. I also believe that culture, context, and the systems in which we live influence us tremendously. Understanding these aspects of our lives -- both as strengths and as challenges -- is central to the process of counseling. I practice from a place of cultural humility, a commitment to social justice, and a sense of curiosity and openness. I love to learn with and from my clients.
