About My Clients
My ideal clients are adults experiencing or seeking identity affirming care (i.e., LGBT+, BIPOC), ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, healthier intra- and interpersonal relationships, intense anger, and mood disorders. I'm aware of the need for compassionate encouragement. Therefore, my clients generally describe me as warm, genuine, and direct. I use patience, humor, challenging questions, and honest observations to create a welcoming environment where you are seen and heard.
My Background and Approach
For the past 12 years I have worked in various aspects of mental health, from research to direct client care. My work has included supporting clients individually and as part of a group, with ages ranging from 3 years old to 65 years old, in a wide array of clinical settings. Naturally, caring for folks across this range of life development has taught me that no two clients are going to need the exact same approach. "Cookie cutter care" doesn’t exist here. Care is customizable and input driven, meaning it's my intention to meet each client where they are. I pro-actively assess where you are in the process of change. From there, you and I map out how to get to the next phase through the path we identify together, at a palatable pace. I utilize feedback throughout the therapeutic process to craft a working relationship specific to each client's needs and personality.
Why I Became a Therapist
I’ve directly seen the damaging impact of mental health-related stigma in minority communities, across generations. As a Black therapist, I take pride in providing a safe space for individuals to address the impact of a system that villainizes those experiencing side effects of the human condition, who happen to have darker skin or have identities that “don’t fit” the status quo. I enjoy bringing another perspective to care that isn’t restricted by the stereotype of what therapists should look/act like.
