About My Clients
If you feel like no really sees or understands the real you, I might be a good fit for you. I work well with people who are skeptical about therapy or have had bad experiences with it in the past. People who are navigating tensions around identity including people who are LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, immigrants or children of immigrants, or folks who hold different political views from other important people in their lives often get a lot out of working with me.
My Background and Approach
I've been a therapist since 2013, and have learned a wide range of approaches to therapy; this allows me to offer different approaches and perspectives to my clients so we can collaborative develop a therapy approach that works for them. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Liberation Psychology, and intersectional feminist theory all deeply inform how I think about therapy, although I draw from a wide range of other approaches including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I specialize in identity and the ways our identities interact with what the world expects from us. I consider myself a gender specialist, focusing not only on the unique needs of trans folks, but on the role expectations of men and women have on everyone. I provide a direct, focused approach to therapy that centers the things you want from therapy, which often includes helping my clients figure out exactly what it is that they want.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe first and foremost in the need to connect across difference and understand the perspectives of others and the shared human needs that underlie our differences, without backing down from our own values. I hold that healing happens in community, and I advocate for policies that help ensure people's material and emotional needs are met, and that break down barriers to community support and connection. My paid and unpaid work focus on ensuring that everyone can participate in and contribute to society, with particular focus on groups that are consistently excluded (with a particularly focus on LGBTQ+ folks, immigrants, and people with disabilities). I readily share more specific political beliefs with anyone who asks (including clients or potential clients), but don't go into detail in public platforms, because I believe productive political discussion only happens in relationships. My non-work time includes improv comedy, TTRPGs, board games, reading, and political activism.
