About My Clients

As a queer therapist and community mental health worker, I've had extensive experience with people (including adolescents and older adults) struggling with anxiety, depression, mania, hearing voices, and OCD; with life transitions, parenting, and difficulties in relationships; with complex trauma and with substance use and addiction; with people diagnosed with personality disorders; with TGNC youth and adults; and with people with histories of self-harm and suicidal ideation.

My Background and Approach

My practice is grounded in choice and consent, safety, collaboration, trustworthiness, empowerment, and social justice. From my experiences as an organizer and social worker, I also bring a structural lens to my work to help people understand how power has operated in their lives. Using principles from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based CBT, harm reduction, and feminist relational theory, I can help you discover the wisdom you already hold so that you can save yourself. I can help you navigate that process with creativity, humor, vulnerability, blunt honesty, and compassion. You are not what’s been done to you. You are not your mistakes. And you are not your darkest parts. Those of us who grew up in invalidating environments have learned to invalidate our own experiences and emotions. By accepting what you really think and feel, you can choose how to live.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

In addition to being a therapist, I am a community organizer and activist. These experiences have strengthened my practice because of the beliefs they have engendered: I believe that relationships are the greatest source of healing and empowerment. And they are ultimately what give life meaning. I root my practice in building and strengthening my relationship with clients and helping them empower themselves to build and strengthen relationships in their lives and communities. I do this using an attachment-based, feminist relational framework for people to understand how they've come to relate to others in their way, and how to grow from that place. I believe people do what they have to to survive. In traumatic environments (from families with abuse to white supremacist patriarchal systems), people's behaviors (no matter how confusing) make total and complete sense when seen from a survival lens. I believe in the healing power of therapy to reclaim one's power and meaning.
