Hi! I'm Dr. Paula Swindle, LCMHCS, founder and clinical director of the Center for Healing Religious Harm.
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor in Hickory, NC
Much of my counseling experience has been in medical settings, including designing and implementing counseling services in the Cancer Center, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Our physical and emotional health are very connected, and my experience includes helping clients manage the stress and fear of medical issues, the grief and loss of health and activity, and navigating important relationships that may now seem to revolve around an illness. You are more than a diagnosis.
Our career (or lack thereof) is one of the most vital aspects of our identity, and often impacts our quality of life, our feelings of self-worth, and our feelings of security. I love helping people explore the various career paths available to them, figure out the best job fit for their values, talents, skills and intuition, and then implement finding employment on that path. As a University counseling faculty member, one of my favorite classes to teach is the Career Counseling class.
As the founder and Clinical Director of the Center for Healing Religious Harm, helping people heal from abusive religious systems, abusive religious leaders, or harmful theology/beliefs has been the focus of my counseling practice and my research. I focused my entire dissertation on this topic, and continue to train counselors, religious leaders, and clients on the healing process.
I am trained in a wide variety of counseling theories and techniques, and work with the client to decided which elements of different approaches will be most helpful for them.
