About My Clients

Something isn't working — in your relationship, in your body, or in your sense of who you are sexually. Maybe you've tried to talk about it and haven't found the right words. Maybe you've never said it out loud at all. That's exactly where this work begins. I'm a Certified Sex Therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in sex therapy, couples counseling, and trauma. I work with individuals and couples navigating desire discrepancy, women's sexual health, and intimacy issues.

My Background and Approach

I work with individuals and couples from a strength-based, trauma-informed, client-centered foundation. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. I draw on cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches, adapting to what you actually need rather than applying a fixed formula. We'll start by understanding what brought you here, then work together to identify the most meaningful path forward, whether that's building skills, shifting patterns, setting boundaries, or deepening self-understanding. For couples, I use the Gottman Method: a research-based framework that begins with a thorough assessment of your relationship before we set goals together. It gives us a clear, honest picture of where you are and what's possible. I'm also a Brainspotting therapist. For clients carrying trauma, shame, or long-held emotional blocks, it's a brain-body approach that often reaches what talk therapy alone cannot, without requiring you to narrate everything.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I became a sex therapist because sexuality is inseparable from identity, wellbeing, and justice — and too many people have been taught shame about something simply human. That conviction is personal as well as professional. I'm part of affirming communities myself, so I bring lived understanding, not just clinical training. I'm a PhD student in sexology, perpetually curious about what the research is uncovering. My practice, Paula Kirsch Therapy, is a private-pay service. I am happy to provide superbills upon request for individuals wishing to use OON benefits. Outside the office I paint, travel, and share my home with two opinionated black cats who have never once asked for my clinical opinion. I am here for you, without judgement, with care and respect. If you've ever felt like you had to leave part of yourself at the door to be taken seriously — you won't here.
