About My Clients
Does it feel like you've tried it all, and you're still stuck? Does anxiety grab hold when you least expect? Or do you feel like getting out of bed is a mountain that you have to climb? Maybe that horrible event (or series of events) keeps following you around? No matter how you might be suffering, there are ways to overcome. I help folks bring meaning into each moment and tackle what has been holding you back, and I look forward to walking with you on that journey.
My Background and Approach
I have spent my career - from the University to my current practice - training in the treatment approaches that help people overcome the pain and live more fully. I ensure people walk away with something new each time we meet - a new skill to try, a new insight, and beyond - so that you are getting the most out therapy. We will work together to look at what keeps you stuck and make a shared plan on how we can move forward - with less suffering and more meaning and purpose. I've been trained in several key treatment approaches, like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which rapidly changes our relationship to our lived experience while getting more of what we want. I'm also trained in EMDR for trauma and PTSD processing. And last, but not least I am one of the few CAMS trained therapists in Reno, where we address suicidal thoughts and begin to live a life with hope and eyes toward the future.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We all suffer - in different ways, different capacities, and to different degrees. But we are also all here to do something important, sometimes we just don't know what that is until it hits us in the face. I found what I do through several different life changing experiences - a rollover car crash on Geiger grade, a subsequent motorcycle crash, years spent working in hospice, and the work I did in the hospital. I can't believe that I get to work with people in this way - I truly feel that I have found my calling. I view every person as navigating their own, similarly complex path of meaning. The hurts, the loss, the struggles - but also the joys, the triumphs, and the connections we form. Getting to know each person's story is one of my favorite things, and I can't wait to hear yours.
