About My Clients

I work with adults who sense that their struggles — anxiety, depression, relational patterns that repeat — have a history worth understanding. Many of my clients are immigrants, professionals, new parents, or people navigating questions of faith and meaning. Some have tried therapy before and found it too surface-level. I offer psychodynamic work in English and Portuguese: unhurried, attentive to what's underneath, and oriented toward lasting change rather than quick fixes.

My Background and Approach

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH27628) with a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and advanced psychoanalytic training . My work is psychodynamic and object-relational: rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we look at the patterns beneath them — how early relationships shape the ones you have now, what your anxiety or depression might be protecting, and what wants to be said that hasn't yet found words. Sessions are conversational and unhurried. I listen closely, ask questions that open things up rather than close them down, and trust that meaningful change comes from understanding, not just technique. I work with individuals and couples; with couples, I often alternate individual and conjoint sessions to give each partner room to think. I was born in Brazil and practice fluently in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I came to this work through my own long experience in analysis — over ten years on the other side of the couch — and I believe that matters. It's hard to accompany someone into territory you haven't visited yourself. Before becoming a therapist, I was a professional guitarist. Music taught me how to listen — to timing, silence, and what's happening underneath the melody — and that training shapes how I listen in sessions. Beyond the clinical, I read philosophy and theology seriously, and questions of faith, doubt, and meaning are welcome in my office rather than treated as symptoms. As an immigrant and a new father, I know something firsthand about building a life between languages and about how becoming a parent reorganizes everything. When I'm not working, you might find me watching Brazilian football or listening to jazz.
