About My Clients
Have you ever experienced chronic stress, life changes, trauma, loss, served in the military, faced racial, orientation, gender, and other prejudices, and/or other life issues that have changed how you live mentally, emotionally, and physically? Please know that I get it! The majority of my clients have gone through these same things and have been successful at making changes to how life's crap can bring them down. We can work together, figure out what's needed, and ways to improve your life
My Background and Approach
As your therapist, I work to create a safe and inviting space. Contrary to how most of us believe, the world can slow down for a minute so that you can explore, understand, and transform behaviors, thoughts, and patterns that may be keeping you from living the life you want to live. My style as a therapist is warm and challenging, direct and engaging, and I’m relationally oriented. What that means is that I truly believe that it is through our early relationships that certain patterns get established and certain wounds created, and it is only then through relationship that these patterns and wounding can shift and be healed. When we work together as therapist and client, it’s actually the relationship between us that becomes the therapy in addition to the all of the ways we explore, address and clarify the content you bring into the room.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Therapy! Who wants to admit they can't handle life on life's terms? Well, I can say I felt the same way before I went through my own experiences with counseling. As a person who has lived through childhood trauma, hiding my orientation, suffering in silence, abusive adult relationships, spiritual confusion, and then gender identity issues, goodness who the heck wants to relive that? It was the first step in learning how to give myself a voice, become visible, empowered, and then getting to help others. Trust me, I can't say that I can walk in your shoes, but I can say that my shoes didn't feel so great either! The reason for therapy is not to validate you as a victim, or being crazy, less than, violating your cultural norms, but to set you free to explore and find that person inside of you that can exist because you deserve to be seen and valued no matter what! Trust me, I was afraid but proud and pride almost kept me from discovering the true survivor in me.
