About My Clients
Have you been wanting to talk to someone I work with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, self-esteem issues, women's issues, and racial trauma. I am certified in trauma. In addition, I work closely with those who are diagnosed with bipolar. My clients enjoy receiving communication from me between sessions and completing "life assignments" that help them improve their lives one week at a time. The modalities most used in my practice are CBT and DBT.
My Background and Approach
Having 13 years of experience as a therapist has given me the ability to connect with clients. I enjoy helping people understand, grow, and heal. As a therapist, I feel that using an evidence-based approach is important. I work with you each week to help give you tools ("life assignments") to help you learn new ways of coping and relating to others. We work collaboratively to create a personalized treatment plan. In my private practice, I focus on helping people alleviate depression and/or anxiety by using Cognitiv Behavioral Therapy. I also feel that it is important to learn different ways to label and express your feelings. I provide tools to help you do these things. Most importantly, however, I pride myself on building a strong, therapeutic bond with my clients. At each session, I want my clients to feel as if they have had a great talk with a friend who has given them helpful tools. I provide a safe space for my clients to laugh, cry, or just sit in silence.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe the biggest determinant of making meaningful change while in therapy is having a strong, therapeutic bond with your therapist. Although I research to find the latest, evidence-based techniques, I am forever mindful of how I show up in our sessions. It is important for clients to know that their therapist is a human being who has experienced some of the same feelings they have. Therefore, I think it is important to walk beside you in this process. My personal belief is that everyone should have a good therapist and every good therapist should have a great therapist. For this reason, I am always "doing the work" with you. I think of a therapy session as a 50-minute vacation in which a person goes on an adventure to learn more about themselves and learn skills to help them cope with life in a more positive manner. The sessions are your self-care time; your time to put yourself first. I provide culturally competent, affirming, therapy to people from all communities.
