About My Clients

My goal as a therapist is to help my clients build themselves a strong inner core of self-compassion, love, accountability and growth. My clients often walk in feeling hopeless and stuck, sometimes with extreme distress as they navigate the major transitions of life. Together we focus on the present while being informed by the past to repair the wounds of childhood, build skills to manage and tolerate the ups and downs of life, and to embrace their natural resilience and ability to evolve.

My Background and Approach

I have a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY New Paltz University. After earning my graduate degree, I spent a decade nurturing my three children at home. My approach to psychotherapy is rooted in an understanding of the developmental arcs that humans experience through their lifespans. One of the main goals in my sessions with clients is to examine how their experience is shaped by where they are in life and I work hard to help clients develop different lenses through which to view their own behaviors and feelings; over time we work towards making sure that their new lens is always one rooted in compassion first, while holding space for accountability and evolution. Having grown up as the American child of immigrant parents, I have a special interest in the family dynamics that develop when different cultures exist in the same household and I love helping families bridge those divides. In addition, I have an insider's understanding of South Asian culture.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a living example of shifting roles and identities and I have learned through my own experience that life has many seasons. I also believe that as we navigate these seasons, it only makes sense that we should have help. Mental health is a fundamental part of health overall and I believe strongly in what I like to call "Life-Span Therapy." By this I mean that therapy is something people should engage in whenever they move through major life stages as a prophylactic measure to help them weather the ups and downs that are natural and inevitable when they experience fundamental changes in identity. The internal shifts required to go from single to married, non-parent to parent, parent to empty-nester, stay at home parent to working parent, or married to single, are all seismic. I am passionate about educating my clients first and foremost about the benefits of cultivating a life long commitment to an "as needed " use of therapy as a tool in their arsenal to navigate their journey.
