About My Clients
Are you feeling that your voice is not being heard? Are you unsure about future changes? Are you needing a place to figure these things out? Change happens every minute, small or big, there is always some impact this has on one's current situation. What does it mean? How do you move forward? What does the future hold? I validate all feelings and help find ways to cope with life's stressors that will last a lifetime.
My Background and Approach
My background is in psychology and counseling. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in psychology, with minors in both history and sociology. I recently graduated with my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Walden University with a specialty in couples, marriage, and family counseling. My experience began back during my student internship at UM where I worked at a non-profit youth assistance program in Westland, Michigan. There, I help run different psychoeducational groups for both children and their families along with doing regular "check-ins" with clients to discuss things in a private manner. Then, during my master's, I did my internship at the Costello Center in St. Petersburg, Florida with Michelle Donley (LCSW) learning about the different aspects of therapy, doing solo work with clients, learn about different state statues, as well as company, ethical, and legal implications to different situations.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Being a Jewish-Mexican American, I believe in mental health care is something everyone, young and old, should have access to. Throughout my career, one of my goals is to help reduce the stigmas associated with mental health. I always say to people, "it is okay to NOT be okay" meaning I will be here for you and help guide you through life's challenges by developing different coping skills that match your view of the world. I also believe in listening to views that are different than my own, judge free. I also that for younger clients, if a situation arises such as parents going through separation, having a place to talk about those feelings and figuring out what it means in the current situation. In my free time, I enjoy watching and attending Detroit area professional sports, the University of Michigan (Go Blue) and LSU (Geaux Tigers) athletics. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family including my furry babies, two dogs and two cats (Jag/Ty and Skylar/Rocky) respectively.
