About My Clients
Concerns about location accessibility, chemical sensitivities, or exposure for the immunocompromised are things of the past. Your video counseling session will be in an environment you control. Most people have a history that includes some form of trauma, whether it is emotional, physical, or another form. Those experiences can play a role in your health, learned behaviors, and relationships. I understand how hard it can be, and I know there’s still hope for positive change.
My Background and Approach
I have nearly 30 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families develop stronger and healthier relationships. I have served POC, LGBTQ+, and people in poverty. I’ve also worked with those impacted by disabilities and incarceration. I do trauma-informed therapy, drawing heavily from CBT, attachment, and systems theories, though the specific approaches are individualized through collaborative dialogue to meet the client's needs. I hold a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Eastern Washington University, with a specialty focus in Marriage and Family Counseling. I am licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Most of my nearly 30 years in the field has been spent serving POC, LGBTQ+, and people in poverty. I’ve also worked with those impacted by disabilities and incarceration. I’ve experienced both trauma and the wounding and healing qualities of relationships. I understand how hard it can be, and I know there’s still hope for positive change. I’m not afraid to recognize or discuss your sense of values or spirituality in therapy. My training and background as a pastor for 37+ years in the United Methodist Church prepared me to talk about these subjects if you need to, but I will never impose my own beliefs on you. I am the Counseling Program Manager at the Tacoma Rescue Mission, serving homeless women and men who also struggle with an addiction. I am also a 25+ year volunteer with the Kairos Prison Ministry, serving incarcerated individuals and the women who are impacted by incarceration.
