About My Clients
My ideal client is someone who struggles with intense emotions—whether it’s anger, sadness, anxiety, or shame—that can feel overwhelming or hard to manage. They may be living with a personality disorder, dealing with trauma, or finding themselves caught in patterns that damage relationships and self-esteem. They want to feel more in control of their emotional responses, improve communication, and create a life that reflects their goals and values.
My Background and Approach
My path began at Texas Tech University, where I earned my bachelor’s in social work and developed a passion for supporting people through life’s challenges. I completed my MSW at Columbia University and, after becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, returned to school to pursue my PhD in Social Welfare at UC Berkeley. I’ve worked in diverse settings—from homeless outreach to psychotherapy—and now specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients manage intense emotions, build coping skills, and create meaningful change. I have extensive experience supporting individuals with chronic difficulties regulating emotions and attend regular DBT consultation groups to ensure the highest quality care. I’m especially interested in adapting DBT for issues in relationships, co-occurring substance use, complex trauma, and culturally specific needs, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique experiences.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a Mexican, able-bodied, cis-gender man (pronouns: he/his/him/él), gay, and happily partnered. I respectfully share my positionality with the intention of building healthy therapy relationship with you, and so that you are aware of any potential blind spots I may have regarding your own positionalities.
