Creative Art Therapist in New York, NY
As a culturally sensitive therapist its my goal to foster support and understanding for clients who come from different cultural backgrounds or experiences. Allowing clients to express themselves through the lens of their cultural understanding and upbringing and working with them to feel comfortable. I am also an immigrant to this country and a third culture kid and have personal experience with acculturation issues and feeling of isolation, and not feeling accepted.
Creativity is a window into ones inner world. Art making is an expression of ones feelings and thoughts captured in that moment in time. As an art therapist I use creativity to guide my clients into exploring their inner knowing. When making art the client has the space to explore and make meaning of their feelings and give voice to experiences that they are trying to work through, understand and process. Art making is a container for the emotions and a means to gain insight and understanding.

I have been working with the queer community for over 12 years. Being "other-ed" can create a sense of isolation and loneliness because the norm is still heavily slanted to heterosexuality and any variance is still seen as "not normal". This can create many challenges including feeling unsafe in the world, oppression, and discrimination. My hope is that I can provide people with validation of their experiences, a safe space to explore and express, and supportive resources.
As a third culture kid (TCK) adult, my sense of belonging to a certain culture and the idea of "home" have been both a struggle and a privilege. I come from a multiracial background and immigrated to this country as a young adult from South East Asia. From my personal and professional experience dealing with racism, marginalization, oppression, and much more I now focus on supporting others navigate how these issues affect their lives.
