About My Clients
While we often feel alone when struggling with our mental health, treatment and support need to take into account the many ways in which we are linked to others. This is especially the case for children and those of us belonging to minority, immigrant, LGBTQ+, and religious communities. I work with families and couples, meeting them where they are. I also utilize gaming and other fandoms to help translate psychological concepts to the stories that mean the most to my clients.
My Background and Approach
I have accumulated 8 years of therapy with children, teens, adults, and their families, incorporating applied behavior analysis, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, and family therapy to help with mood disorders, developmental disorders, trauma-related disorders, identity issues, and family dysfunction. This means that I care about my client's goals, their cultural context, their relationships, and their beliefs. Our therapeutic relationship becomes a practice-ground for skills and interactions that my clients can take out into the world. I'm curious about my client's story and work cooperatively to help my clients see themselves as empowered to make their own decisions, protect themselves, and reach out to others. As needed, therapy can also be a space where we practice coping skills and enforce some structure around decision-making and organizing self-care. Know that our work together will be based in research, evidence, acceptance, and respect.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
If you are interested in working with me, know that you will receive respect and nonjudgment. I will always work to be your ally. That said, I will challenge my clients, call them out as necessary, and celebrate with them in their successes. I believe in my clients' autonomy and encourage them to ask questions and push back if they disagree. I want to know about my clients' passions and interests, so I can treat them with respect and incorporate them as necessary. We can talk about taboos and uncertainties in a safe environment where I'll never say, "TMI!" It can be difficult to begin a therapeutic relationship, and it is a testament to your strength that you are here, looking for options! I appreciate your consideration and hope to provide you with a nonjudgmental, attentive presence and evidence-based help. Thank you.
