About My Clients
Your body and brain are so resilient, doing their best to help you out of hardest times. Long after surviving, the methods your resilient brain and body used to get you through those tough times might be contributing to continued distress as they are no longer serving you as they once did. Maybe you isolate from others, turn to food or busy schedules to avoid, tear yourself down, or numb yourself out in order to try to protect yourself from pain and suffering. You are ready to find a new way.
My Background and Approach
Many clients come to me in their suffering or discomfort asking for me to help them ‘stop feeling’ a certain way - anxious, sad, angry, ‘emotional.’ As difficult as the task may be, I ask you to slowly warm to the idea that you don’t need to be cured of your emotional states. Instead, to reconnect with yourself in ways that help you to re-establish, or establish, safety in the brave act of fully feeling. Weaving together depth talk therapy, Internal Family Systems (Parts work), Somatic (body) psychotherapy, mindfulness, meditation, and more we will collaborate on your healing journey to find the approach to meet you where you are in each moment. I will ask you to practice slowing down, explore self-compassion, and use some active imagination as we harness the power of neuroplasticity (your amazing ability to create new pathways in your brain, but it's not easy). Most of what I'll ask you to try will not be easy, it's normal to feel fear and hesitation when trying something new. No rush
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are all naturally connected and wired to connect, and that profound healing happens in relationships. When you experience trauma, whether one large traumatic incident or smaller incidents over time, relationships with self and others can become strained and it can feel challenging to connect. In this you are not alone. Additionally, in that I believe we are all connected as well as unique, I believe we all have a responsibility to one another. I am relatively new to Portland and have resonated deeply with commitment to mutual aid efforts and continue to navigate how I can personally and professionally uphold my values of community, accessibility, compassion, and more.
