About My Clients
I work with people who have tried to grow and live a full life but get stuck and are in pain. Pain comes in many different forms such as trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, discrimination, betrayal, or just feeling lost. This pain keeps us trapped in patterns and we have a hard time finding our way out. My specialty is working with people whose pain is made more complex by intersecting identities (Religion/Spirituality, Culture/Race/Ethnicity, LGBQ+, immigration).
My Background and Approach
When you find yourself in pain and you don't know how to get out, this is where therapy can be helpful. Relationships can cause so much pain in our lives, but they also can be sources of incredible meaning-making and healing. We can help you slow down, make sense of your story, have compassion for the ways you have been trying to survive, and help you identify the patterns that continue to leave you feeling stuck and in pain. I work to not only reduce your symptoms but integrate all these elements in a way that will set you free to live your life more fully. I value drawing on the strengths, values, contexts, and communities (e.g., cultural, religious, chosen family) of my clients because they are what make each person unique and thus are essential to the process of healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people develop mental health issues largely from traumas big and small that forced them to act certain ways in order to have value and be safe. I believe it is through healing relationships with others and yourself that you can begin to understand and then shift these patterns to live a more healthy life. As someone who is bi-racial, I know what it's like to live with complex identities, learn how to make sense of them, and then live out the slow process of integration. It has been through my own journey with myself and my community that I have come to this belief in the power of intentional, honest, and attuned relationships. I have wide-ranging interests and have degrees in music and theology in addition to my degrees in psychology. I am active in supporting communities on the margins (LGBTQ+, ethnic minorities, immigrants, people with low SES).
