About My Clients
I enjoy working with teens, college students, adults of all ages and couples. Many of my clients are struggling with relationship or family conflict, health concerns, addictions, losses, or school/career/life transitions that leave them wondering where the joy for life went and whether they will ever feel better. Other clients describe feeling like something seems off, and they need unbiased, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable support to help them figure it out or get past it.
My Background and Approach
Hi, I’m Nikki--a professional counselor, wife, mom to two great humans, and passionate advocate for teens, couples, & adults seeking health, joy, connection and balance in life. I began my career as a health psychologist researcher, manager, and career mentor in the chronic disease center at the CDC. Now, as a full-time therapist, I’m passionate about helping high school and college students, parents, patients, individuals with disabilities, individuals in recovery, retirees, families, and couples who are struggling with life’s ups and downs. I draw from an existential theoretical framework with specialized training in mindfulness, internal family systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, marriage and family therapy, and a bio-psycho-social approach to health and wellness. As a survivor of many life stages, I know how exhausting it can be to keep life moving forward when you encounter challenges that keep pulling you back. I bring warmth, humor, and a down-to-earth approach to sessions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe life is a gift but it doesn’t always feel that way. We all go through hard times that can cause distress, uncertainty or even hopelessness. As a researcher who has worked with survivors of difficult life events, I believe it’s possible to find hope, purpose, and even joy despite tragedy and unfortunate circumstances. One of the keys to joy is authentic connections, and therapy can be a powerful start. To be truly seen, heard, and understood is an essential first step for healing. Everyone has incredible and unique gifts to share. One of my greatest joys in therapy is helping clients recognize and appreciate their strengths. I also believe every person is worthy of respect and dignity, and it’s my honor to help others find their dignity when they believe it’s lost. As a Christian, I recognize that leaning on faith in hard times can be a source of strength for many people, but my goal is always to meet people where they are with acceptance and non-judgment.
