About My Clients
Sometimes the weight of the world can feel like it is crashing down on you. You may not know where to turn or what to do. Having a non-biased perspective can be helpful when you are directly involved in a situation and cannot see things as clearly as you would like. I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, ocd, relationship problems, family conflict, substance abuse and grief and loss. I enjoy working with individuals in the age range of older teens to older adults.
My Background and Approach
For about a decade I worked in the psychiatric setting specializing in co-occurring disorders and crisis intervention. I have worked in various residential facilities focusing on addiction and recovery, as well as codependency issues in their families. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy where we focus on changing unhelpful and unhealthy thoughts and behaviors and work on identifying, challenging and changing negative and distorted thinking patterns. I strongly encourage individuals to explore the boundaries that exist in their family dynamics and set their own personal limits with others. It can be helpful to understand how the type of communication we utilize impacts our ability to clearly express those limits and expectations to others.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have a strong belief that the things we tell ourselves, directly impacts how we feel and how we show up. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. I am here to explore the different options for achieving your goals and help you determine what is the best path to take. I believe in a strong therapeutic relationship involving mutual trust and respect between clinician and client. My goal is to provide compassionate yet forthright feedback to aid in achieving your goals and meeting you where you are at. It's never too late to be the person you want to be.
