About My Clients

I specialize in work with adolescents and families. It can feel confusing, frustrating and scary trying to help your teen navigate their emotions and the world around them. I can help provide a safe space for your developing adolescent to explore their feelings, develop healthy decision making skills, improve impulse control, learn to listen to their feelings, understand themselves, and build self-confidence.

My Background and Approach

I have worked with the adolescent population and families for over 15 years in outpatient and inpatient settings, where symptoms range from stress to depression and anxiety that include self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation, substance use, hair pulling, restriction and aggression. I have been intensively trained in Dialectal Behavior Therapy, equipping me to provide concrete strategies and hope for you and your teen. I’ve also participated in post-graduate training in Family Therapy that provides me a framework to support the whole teen in their environment. I also incorporate advanced training I received through the Ackerman Family Institute that draws from a number of Family Treatment Models, including a relational model that looks at relationships outside of the family (old and new, with people and systems) that impact family dynamics.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that your connection with your therapist is one of the primary factors in therapy working for you. There’s no one treatment or therapist that fits everyone. I believe that, while “All Lives Matter” there are lives that have historically not mattered and continue to be oppressed and traumatized. I am a white, cisgender, heterosexual female, with privilege. I bring this into the therapy space with me and work to use my consciousness of this to elevate my clients’ voice and experience. I believe it’s incredibly important for me to ensure a space for everyone, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, marriage status and more, to be valued, respected and empowered. I do my own work, personally and professionally, to create this space and be able to take ownership for my actions (whether overt or covert) and make change in my behavior.
