I know how scary it can be to get help. You probably spend a lot of time and energy trying to avoid thinking about what happened. I address trauma in counseling at YOUR PACE. I will never force you to tell me details of the traumatic event unless you would like to talk about them. You are in complete control in our sessions. We will begin by giving you skills to cope before we work on processing the trauma. I use CBT, DBT, and EMDR, which are effective methods that provide relief.
Gottman Method is a form of couples counseling that improves friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning. Couples learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and to repair past hurts. Interventions designed to increase closeness and intimacy are used to improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create changes which enhances the couples shared goals. Relapse prevention is also addressed. https://www.gottman.com/about/the-gottman-method/
EMDR seems to help the brain reprocess the trapped memories is such a way that normal information processing is resumed. Therapists often use EMDR to help clients uncover and process beliefs that developed as the result relational traumas or childhood abuse and/or neglect. This method allows the individual to process the trauma without having to disclose all of the details of the traumatic events. This is a highly effective treatment that provides relief for most individuals.
Whether you are dating, engaged, or married, couples counseling can provide a safe and supportive place for couples to explore their relationship concerns with the support and expertise of a therapist. I will work with you to repair the damage that has occurred and help you develop a stronger relationship. I find that often couples have difficulty communicating with each other, or they simply forget what they loved about each other in the beginning.
Depression roots itself in the mind and makes the individual feel like they are not worthy of help, things will never get better. I have found that many people with depression don't seek help until they are so far in that they are considering suicide. I want you to know that you are not alone! I can help you find hope, motivation, and tools to fight back these negative thoughts.
