About My Clients
I work with people struggling with addiction, stress, anxiety, self-destructive patterns, and compulsive behaviors. I also support clients continuing recovery after inpatient or outpatient treatment. Many people I work with may not identify with traditional addiction treatment, but still want support changing difficult patterns and improving their mental health. My practice offers a nonjudgmental space focused on insight, resilience, and meaningful change.
My Background and Approach
Finding a therapist can feel daunting. You may wonder if you'll feel understood, or if therapy can help. Most people understandably feel this way. My practice prioritizes building rapport and developing trust. After all, the number one predictor of successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. My background includes experience in community mental health, research, crisis response, and co-occurring disorder treatment. I have experience supporting individuals navigating substance use, relationship concerns, compulsive behaviors, anxiety, depression, psychosis, suicidality, and major life stressors. This allows me to help clients approach difficult emotions and behavioral patterns with practical tools, insight, and compassion. My therapeutic approach integrates CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed approaches to help clients build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, strengthen self-understanding, and create meaningful, lasting change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My passion for working with addiction and compulsive behaviors comes from both lived and clinical experience. I believe addiction treatment is mental health treatment, and that healing often begins by reducing shame, stigma, and self-criticism. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe exploring difficult emotions, understanding patterns in their lives, and reconnecting with their strengths and values. A core belief that informs my work is that much of human distress comes from the gap between the way the world is and the way we wish it were. Rather than denying reality or abandoning hope, I aim to help clients bring those two dialectics closer together through acceptance, insight, and meaningful change. My practice is grounded in inclusivity, social justice, and respect for each person’s lived experience. I am committed to creating an affirming space for individuals from marginalized and underserved communities, and I approach therapy through an empowerment-focused lens.
