My Background and Approach
Nerkissa Dixon is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of South Alabama College of Nursing. She earned her undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from the University of South Alabama, and earned her Doctorate of Education from Walden University. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Nerkissa spent 18 years working as a registered nurse at a level one trauma hospital providing nursing care for clients with psychiatric illnesses, burn injuries, orthopedic injuries, and general medical-surgical conditions. Nerkissa is passionate about providing high-quality, evidence-based mental health care treatment, and providing mental health education in an effort to decrease generational stigma surrounding mental illness. She provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and talk therapy for clients with depression and anxiety.
