My Background and Approach
I've worked in a number of different setting and much of my experience is with adolescents and their families. I see myself as a translator because it's so common for me to see 2 people speak the same language but have no idea what the other is talking about. Most of the problems with couples, families, and/or individuals can be majorly improved simply by better and more productive communication. I can help to eliminate all of the distractions and help people focus on what is important. I help people to see that those arguments about the socks being left out actually have nothing to do with the socks.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe whole-heartedly in the mind/body/spirit model of well being. When these 3 are in alignment, this is when we are at are best. When one or all of these are out of alignment is when we experience anxiety and depression. I don't believe there is any one clear spiritual path and that is a choice for each individual to make. I see myself as someone tagging along on your journey of self discovery. I hope i can be an objective voice when things get distorted or confused in your mind. I believe in the power of family work and couples work. I see the family as a whole unit and when one part of the unit is struggling, that means the whole unit is struggling. Therefore, I believe the most effective family therapy involves the entire family. I believe personal experiences should be valued. I know that what I have experienced in life has shaped me as much as my education and professional experience. I have great respect for the experiences of my clients.
