My Background and Approach
Back in 2007, I earned my BA in psychology. In 2023, I earned my MA in Counseling and Psychological Services. In between, I worked primarily in the political arena. As a man in his early 40's, my experience has been wide-ranging and complex and my therapeutic style reflects this. Because of my life experience, I have seen and experienced human resilience. I have seen dramatic turn-arounds in people who previously felt hopeless. I strongly believe in human potential to bounce back and rediscover the core self. My therapeutic approaches are evidence-based and I adapt proven methods to individual clients. In previous sessions, I have drawn from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, among others. In therapy, we can process or contemplate the past, present, and future and identify emotional states associated with each experience. Therapy can be an exciting, collaboaritive experience.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in honesty, fairness, kindness, and the possibility of a fresh start. I have strong artistic leanings (music, theater, literature, comedy) but also love to play and watch sports. I am a spiritual person; often experienced through prayer, meditation, and being in nature. I believe in equality and fair treatment for all people -- regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, or gender identity. I wish people could express political / social opinions in a more civil and respectful way -- without resorting to ad hominem (personal) attacks. Freedom of expression is one of my core values. People deserve a safe, non-judgmental place to share their authentic thoughts / opinions, free from fear of reprisal. Sometimes, that place is in a counseling session. In my opinion, the "Golden Rule" is profoundly valid and wise. "Treat others as you wish to be treated." This edict epotimizes my personal and professional belief.
