About My Clients

Our culture, identities, experiences of marginalization, and familial roles impact how we move through the world and can make living an authentic, fulfilling life complex. Our unique lived experiences can leave us feeling misunderstood, alone, and plagued by worry. Life’s challenges can cause increased experiences of guilt, shame, and irritability. Becoming your most empowered and confident self comes with challenges, like isolation and other changes in your relationship dynamics.

My Background and Approach

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so we will adapt to meet your specific needs. You are encouraged to take the lead during therapy as you are the expert on yourself. I take a holistic approach to therapy to help improve your quality of life because you're more than your problems, and context matters. I collaborate with you to understand your culture, upbringing, and other identities, and how they contribute to who you are, how you view the world and your concerns, as well as how you cope. I take time to help you explore and understand how your past experiences impact your current ways of coping and worldview. Using this insight, we work to identify common themes and underlying patterns to unlearn and challenge negative thought patterns. We will have honest but difficult conversations to help you be your brightest, most authentic self. I will equip you with skills and knowledge that you can use throughout your life to continuously accomplish your goals.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a Muslim woman of Indo-Caribbean descent who is the oldest daughter of immigrant parents, I’ve lived the struggle of navigating multiple minority identities. I have seen first-hand how many people struggle with their mental health and how it impacts not only them but also others around them, including those they care for the most. We all know there is a stigma surrounding mental health care and I understand the additional stigma there is for the BIPOC community, Muslims, and other marginalized groups, making it harder for us to seek help as a result. My work as a therapist is something I hold in great esteem and find to be deeply profound and meaningful. I am honored to be a part of people’s journey to wellness, to hold space for those who don't dare to take up space, to provide support when it feels like there's nowhere to turn, and to laugh alongside you as we do the difficult, and rewarding work. But ultimately, you are the key to creating change!
