About My Clients
My clients have negative thoughts about themselves they cannot escape from. Many put on a mask, pretending they are happy but aren't. Some always help others because they are the pleasers and fixers. Everyone looks up to and depends on them. They hold it down for everyone but themselves. It's overwhelming, and they don't have anyone to talk to. They have suffered in silence for a long time because they don't want to be a burden or disappoint anyone.
My Background and Approach
I've been licensed to practice mental health treatment in Louisiana since 2008 and recently licensed in Virginia as a mental health practitioner. I've learned more than they can teach in a class about people in my 16 years of working with people from various backgrounds. I've learned what, when, and how it works from my clients. I use a Person-Centered approach incorporating multiple theories and my lived experience to tailor treatment to the individual.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in meeting people where they are while understanding the relevance of where they come from. I am an experienced and compassionate therapist who comprehends the cultural nuances that can impact mental health. As a Black clinician, I recognize that mental health care can be a daunting and often stigmatized topic within our community. I've always been deeply interested in how other people experience the world, and I've sought to learn what I can from the lives of others. I am committed to providing a culturally affirming, safe, and supportive environment for African American individuals seeking therapy. I want to help us continually grow and evolve against the cumulative effects of racism on our psychological and physiological health.
