I find it useful to collaborate with clients in order to formulate my approach to best fit their needs. I often draw from a family systems orientation by looking at past experiences, family dynamics, and patterns as a way to better understand present ways of being and making decisions moving forward.
When working with gender identity I meet my clients wherever they are. We explore gender and what it means for them. I work to support whatever decisions feel right for the individual in terms of transition steps (social and medical) and we navigate the process as well as resources, letter writing, etc. together.
I also support loved ones of trans and gender creative folks in group therapy where parents, partners, siblings etc. can come together and process their own experience.
