About My Clients
I work with adult individuals, couples, and small groups (think: family members). My clients are typically invested in their growth, want interactive therapy that does not insist on one approach, are open to mindfulness and exploring deeper issues of life and what it means to be them. Most of my clients are pretty curious about themselves, willing to be challenged, want to be seen and heard and validated, and want to do and get something better than what they currently have.
My Background and Approach
I am competent in a wide variety of approaches and personally favor an eclectic approach. Why? Because I don't believe in only one answer or only one understanding of any given issue. I think there is great benefit in going beyond what we already know and being willing to stop having to believe everything we think. I have done my own work over the years and know what it feels like to entrust your story to a stranger. My clients know that I am just as human as they are, but that I know a thing or two about what I'm talking about with them. I have done advanced training in couples work. I have an affinity for other cultures and speak several languages at least conversationally. I am particularly competent with Middle Eastern and European cultures. Multicultural relationships, multifaith relationships, cultural assimilation...these are all areas of expertise. I am a National Certified Counselor besides being fully licensed in MA and MI.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Integrity is very important to me. I am who I say I am. You can count on me to be authentic and genuine and consistent in my character. My tagline is that I am an archeologist of the self, and I help my clients become that for themselves, too, and help couples discover and explore each other this way, too. I believe relationships are vitally important and that living in accordance with our values is imperative to feeling at home in our life. This is a process and a never ending journey; it's not based on what I think is important for my clients, but what my clients think is important to and for them. I am accepting and validating, and also use my own experience and wisdom to help my clients examine their own beliefs to see if they are actually a help or a hindrance. Some of my main goals in my work are for clients to come to terms with their life, find acceptance, and healthy self love, so they can live an authentic life.
