About My Clients
Many people are suffering unnecessarily and don't know where to begin. They may not know why they are feeling or acting the way they are, or may be distressed about how others have treated them. They may be unhappy, and not know why, or not know how to change it. They may be suffering from past experiences including adverse childhood experiences/trauma, unable to feel good about themselves, trust others, feel joy, or experience satisfying relationships. I provide safe space to explore your life.
My Background and Approach
My Bachelor's Degree is in Psychology from Purdue University, and I have a Masters in Social Work from the University at Albany with specialization in clinical counseling and aging. I am licensed by the State of New York at the most advanced level. I have worked in outpatient clinics, schools, and skilled nursing facilities. I have avidly pursued continuing education with my practice influenced by many approaches to therapy including CBT, DBT, ACT, Internal Family Systems, somatic approaches, emotion focused, problem solving and solution focused, and more. This allows me to individualize services to each unique person, with a broad range of understanding and interventions that will help you create the changes you wish to experience in your life. The ultimate goal is better achieved--to feel and do better--to live your best life. Areas of special interest include trauma, relationships, parenting, aging, transition to retirement, nature/wilderness-based therapy, and climate/eco-anxiety.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am passionate about environmental protection, animal rescue, and both a cat and dog lover for sure! My family currently includes 5 kitties (3 are siblings), but sadly we have lost a few canine members in recent years. I have an earlier career background in the above fields and continue to support non-profit organizations with such missions. I have a background in federal environmental law enforcement, and highly value social justice and individual rights. I love nature, gardening, hiking, & kayaking. In therapy, I cultivate a safe, comfortable, collaborative relationship, working together to achieve your goals. The relationship we develop is most important--perhaps more important than any approach (according to research). I care deeply and do my best to be a guide, teacher, coach, support, and skilled interventionist in order to help you achieve desired change. I have done much of my own work given my personal background, painful experiences and challenges that help me help you.
