My entire career has been focused on trauma. I have almost 20 years of experience decreasing the impact of PTSD, with a specific focus on helping survivors of sexual assault, abuse, life threatening events, growing up in chaotic or violent families, adult children of substance using parents, and victims of crime. Processing trauma can be accomplished through a variety of techniques with a focus on somatic, cognitive, and emotional processing. I tailor each person’s treatment to meet your needs.

Trauma memories sometimes get stored in the brain differently than other memories. If not processed, the trauma memories can cause a flight, fight, or freeze reaction even when you are safe. Trauma processing helps the brain reorganize the memories so that your nervous system no longer reacts to triggers. EMDR can reprocess the memories so they are no longer activating. Expressive therapy is a therapy modality that uses self-expression through the process of creating. You do not have to be an artist to benefit from expressive therapy. Many different types of expression are used, depending on the focus, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage. The kinesthetic experience involved in creating art engages the emotional parts of our brains in ways that the cognitive focused process of talk therapy does not; this allows us to process more fully providing
