About My Clients
I am interested in working with clients who are aware that there is a problem and are motivated to make changes with the help and support of a therapist. They recognize that the process of change often involves being vulnerable, being patient, stepping out of one's comfort zone, and being honest with both oneself and one's therapist.
My Background and Approach
I obtained my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from an American Psychological Association accredited doctoral program at the University of Iowa. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Michigan State University Counseling Center. Although I identify myself as an integrative therapist, my approach to psychotherapy is primarily influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with an emphasis on multicultural considerations. My intersecting identities as a woman, person of color, and first-generation immigrant guide my treatment approach. My approach is tailored to fit my client’s values, needs, and personality. I specialize in life transitions, self-identity, anxiety, depression, family-of-origin issues, and relationship concerns. I seek to empower my clients to use their wisdom, resilience, strengths, and resources to overcome their adversities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that emotional distress can be best understood and resolved by exploring early life experiences and relationships, worldviews, and current patterns of thoughts. Therefore, I aspire to support and guide my clients to develop self-awareness, increase psychological flexibility, be present, to take actions that are consistent with their life purpose, and to detach from thoughts that are unhelpful to their growth. I believe that through this process, clients are able to create and live a rich, full, and meaningful life regardless of their current life circumstances.
